TOEFL iBT is not scored on 1–6 score scale, with scores given in 0.5 increments. The purpose is to make TOEFL scores easier to understand and better aligned with the CEFR levels used globally for language proficiency. 

How the new TOEFL score will be calculated?

Under the new scale, the overall score will be the average of the four section scores, rounded to the nearest half band. This is different from the old TOEFL system, where the total score was the sum of four section scores out of 30 each.

A “good” TOEFL score depends on your goals and where you're applying. The TOEFL iBT is scored out of 120, and most universities or institutions set their own minimum requirements. 

• 100+ (Score band:5.5 - 6): Excellent Score- Suitable for top universities like Harvard, Stanford, etc. 
• 86-99 (Score band:4.5 - 5): Very Good- Accepted by many competitive programs and visa offices 
• 70–85 (Score band:4): Good- Meets the minimum requirement for most undergraduate admissions and visas 
• Below 58: Basic- May not qualify for many academic institutions 

However, it is advisable to aim for at least 4-6 score, if you plan to study in the US, Canada, the UK, or Australia.
