Requirements are set by the individual degree and may include specific subjects, an admissions test, a portfolio, an interview or relevant experience. Applicants whose first language is not English take an approved test, with bands set by course. Many programmes expect around IELTS 6.0 to 6.5 overall with minimums in each part, while medicine and dentistry ask for higher. Most Scottish undergraduate degrees run over four years and start broad, letting you take subjects outside your main field in the early years before you specialise. This can suit students who are still deciding their focus. Dundee also keeps some traditions from its long link with St Andrews, including the red undergraduate gowns worn at ceremonies.
