London School of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine

LSHTM focuses on public and global health, and is well known for epidemiology, tropical medicine, infectious and non-communicable disease, and health policy. Its researchers work on major health challenges worldwide, including responses to outbreaks such as Ebola and COVID-19. Study areas span statistics, public health, control of infectious diseases, global health policy, nutrition, and related subjects.

Requirements are set by the individual degree and may include specific subjects, an admissions test, a portfolio, an interview or relevant experience. International qualifications are assessed against the university's published country equivalencies, and each offer states the exact academic and non-academic conditions.

Applicants whose first language is not English take an approved test, with bands set by programme. Many courses expect around IELTS 7.0 overall with minimums in each part, reflecting the reading and writing demands of postgraduate study. The community is small, research-focused, and very international, drawn from health and science backgrounds. Distance learners study remotely worldwide while still earning a University of London degree.
