Requirements are set by the individual degree and may include specific subjects, an admissions test, a portfolio, an interview or relevant experience. International qualifications are assessed against the university's published country equivalencies, and each offer states the exact academic and non-academic conditions.

Applicants who did not study in English usually take an approved test. Imperial sets a standard and a higher requirement depending on the course; the standard is commonly around IELTS 6.5 overall with 6.0 in each part, while some departments expect 7.0. Accepted alternatives include TOEFL and certain other recognised qualifications.

International students pay the tuition fee set for their course and year of entry. Some programmes also have costs for placements, fieldwork, laboratory materials or professional requirements. Scholarships and bursaries have separate eligibility rules and are competitive rather than automatic.

The main South Kensington campus sits beside Hyde Park and major museums, giving students a central London base for study and socialising. University accommodation is allocated under eligibility, application and deadline rules. Any first-year guarantee applies only to students who meet all stated conditions; other offers depend on room availability. Clubs, sport and support are provided through the students' union and university services.

Placements, internships and accredited work-based routes are available on selected courses rather than every degree. The careers service supports applications, employer events and skills development, but neither a placement nor graduate employment is guaranteed.
