Federation University Australia is a dual-sector university based in regional Victoria, offering both higher education degrees and TAFE training. In its present form it dates from 2014, when the University of Ballarat merged with Monash University's Gippsland campus, but its roots reach back to the Ballarat School of Mines, founded in 1870. Regional Victoria's largest provider, it has campuses at Ballarat, including the bushland Mt Helen campus, as well as Berwick, Gippsland and the Wimmera. Federation teaches across nursing and health, education, business, engineering, information technology, sciences, sport, and the visual and performing arts, with a focus on work-integrated learning.
